Common Advertising Terms in Social Media Marketing


Impressions – The number of times your ad is shown on screen, regardless of clicks.

Reach – The total number of unique users who saw your ad.

CTR (Click-Through Rate) – The percentage of people who clicked your ad after seeing it.

CPC (Cost Per Click) – The amount you pay each time someone clicks your ad.

CPM (Cost Per Mille) – The cost of 1,000 ad impressions.

Conversion – When a user completes a desired action, like signing up or buying.

Audience – The group of people you target based on location, interests, age, etc.

Ad Set – A group of ads with the same audience, budget, and schedule settings.

Campaign – The overall ad strategy that includes one or more ad sets and ads.

Budget – The total amount you choose to spend on your ads.

Engagement – Actions users take on your ad such as likes, shares, and comments.

Pixel – A piece of code that tracks user actions on your website from your ads.

A/B Testing – Running two versions of an ad to compare which performs better.

Retargeting – Showing ads to people who have previously interacted with your site or content.

Lookalike Audience – A group of people similar to your existing audience, used for targeting.
