Upgrade to Windows 11: Manual Installation with Installation Assistant

There are two main ways to upgrade to Windows 11, depending on your preference and whether your device meets the minimum requirements:

Windows 11

1. Upgrading to Windows 11 through Windows Update (Recommended)

This is the simplest and most recommended method if your device is compatible with Windows 11. Here’s how:

  • Check Compatibility: Before you proceed, ensure your device meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11. You can use the official PC Health Check app by Microsoft (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/how-to-use-the-pc-health-check-app-9c8abd9b-03ba-4e67-81ef-36f37caa7844) or follow these steps:

    • Press the Windows key + S to open the search bar.
    • Type “System Information” and press Enter.
    • In the System Information window, look for “System type” and “Processor.” You’ll need a 64-bit processor and a TPM 2.0 chip (Trusted Platform Module).
  • Windows Update: If your device is compatible, you should see a notification in the Windows Update section of your Settings app when the upgrade is available for your specific machine.

    • Open Settings (Windows key + i).
    • Click on “Update & Security”.
    • Click on “Windows Update”.
    • If the upgrade is available, you’ll see a message like “Feature update to Windows 11 available” or a similar notification. Click the “Download and install” button.
  • Download and Installation: The download process can take a while depending on your internet speed. Once downloaded, Windows will prompt you to restart your computer to begin the installation process. The installation can also take some time, and your computer will restart multiple times during the process.

2. Upgrading to Windows 11 using Installation Assistant (For advanced users or if update isn’t available):

This method is for users who are comfortable with manual processes or if the upgrade isn’t available through Windows Update yet.

  • Download Installation Assistant: Go to the official Microsoft Windows 11 download page https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 and download the “Download Now” button.

  • Run the Assistant: Double-click the downloaded file (Windows11_Installation_Assistant.exe).

  • Agree to License Terms: Read and agree to the license terms by clicking “Accept”.

  • Choose Upgrade Option: You’ll be given two options: “Upgrade now” (recommended) or “Create installation media” (for installing on another device). Select “Upgrade now” to upgrade your current PC.

  • Compatibility Check: The assistant will perform a compatibility check. If your device isn’t compatible, you’ll be notified and the upgrade won’t proceed.

  • Download and Installation: If compatible, the download process will begin. Once downloaded, follow the on-screen instructions for installation. The process can take a while and will involve restarts.

Important Notes:

  • Backup: It’s highly recommended to back up your important files before attempting any upgrade process.
  • System Requirements: Ensure your device meets the minimum requirements to avoid compatibility issues.
  • Internet Connection: A stable internet connection is necessary for downloading the upgrade files.
  • Time: Upgrading can take time, so ensure you have enough time for the download and installation process to complete uninterrupted.

By following these steps, you can upgrade your compatible device to Windows 11. If you’re unsure or encounter any issues, consider consulting the official Microsoft support documentation or reaching out to a tech-savvy friend for assistance.
