How to Create a Simple Logo using the Pen & Selection Tool for Paths Panel [PHOTOSHOP]

Simple Logo Photo (Result)

GOAL: TO BE ABLE TO USE SELECTION, PATCH TOOL, FILTER (Render-Lightening), BLENDING OPTION, NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER(S), COLOR MANIPULATIONS etc.

(This is what you`d achieve if steps are followed properly)

Steps to Create a Simple Logo using the Pen & Selection Tool for Paths Panel

Type your text (preferred name to design your logo)

Highlight your text and make sure Faux Bold is not checked. Then go to Layers > Type > Create Work Path.

Go to Path Panel (close to layers panel) & Rename your path layer to save it. Go to layer panel and make the layer invisible.

The idea is to manipulate the text, using Pen Tool, Path Selection Tool (allows select whole path & free transform) and Direct Pen tool (allows selecting anchor point within the path)

Zoom in to the text, use Path Selection Tool to select anchor point to delete and then use the Pen Tool to select a point (alt+click) from one point to another.

Practice this until you are familiar with how it works in creating curves and adjusting anchor points and making the text look more like a logo.

Create New Layer, select color to use for filling the text from the bottom of the toolbar panel

Go to Paths Panel, Right-Click & select Fill Path, Select color from the options.

To apply a downloaded texture, go to Blending options from layers panel or create a clipping mask by placing the downloaded texture on top the text, select it and go to Layers > Create Clipping Mask

You can do these several times, change the Blending Modes and customize your design to your taste.

Save Logo as .png file type and also as .psd file type so it can be editable anytime.

Good luck in making your first logo.

Note that there are so many ways to create a logo; this is just a way of introducing you to the Paths panel, Pen tool and Selection tools.

The first step in all of this is to sketch how you want your logo to look like in a paper.
