"Ah Ah Ah" was his last exclamation before reaching the ground..
Mr. Albert my neighbor was a very good looking handsome man aged 30 he had just gotten a job in an oil manufacturing company after graduating with good grades from a university in Scotland. His father was a well respected and reputable professor in a university in Nigeria.
Mr. Albert was definitely from a wealthy home, was brilliant and hard-working so after his secondary education, he sat for a scholarship exam and got admitted into a university in Scotland.
He had a wonderful smile and was very friendly, his sudden death was a blow to our faces because he did not even make it to the hospital, he gave up on the way and getting to he hospital he was diagnosed of having a very high blood pressure.
It was a shocking death, he looked healthy, he was living comfortably and he had a good job, I even learnt that he was engaged to be married in the next three months."
His sudden death made me realize that truly all that glitters is not gold, a happy face does not really make a happy man. He must have had some pressing issues or disease which wayed him down until he finally lost the will to live well we will never know since he is late now but his story pushed me to enlighten the world more on this deadly ailment HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE (HYPERTENSION).
Yes dust we are and dust we shall return to but, should we all die miserably like Mr. Albert?
According to World Health organization
*Hypertension_or elevated blood pressure_ is a medical condition that significantly increases the risks of heart, brain, kidney, and other diseases.
*An estimated 1.13 billion people world-wide have hypertension, most ( two-thirds ) living in low-and middle-income countries.
*In 2015 1 in 4 men and 1 in 5 women had hypertension.
*Fewer than one in five people with hypertension have the problem under control.
*Hypertension is a major cause if premature deaths world-wide
*One of the global targets for non-communicable diseases is to reduce the prevalence of hypertension by 25% by 2025(baseline 2010).
High blood pressure sometimes called "Silent killer" has no obvious symptom U.S. deaths related to hypertension have skyrocketed since the mid 2000`s, according to research published online in the JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CARDIOLOGY and presented during ACC`s annual scientific session World Congress of cardiology annual death linked to high blood pressure rose by 72% in urban areas and 20% in urban areas across all age groups and background.
Another question I would like to throw to the general public is "If a fast growing and we`ll developed country like U.S. with all it`s technology and mechanism have this large number of deaths by this ailment, what would it be in an under developed areas?"
So it`s neither for the rich nor poor, young nor old, male nor female. It can happen to anyone ranging from Age 18 and above.
Hypertension is a leading risk factor for coronary heart disease - for which death rates have improved - I thought we`d see an improvement in hypertension in conjunction with that overall trend. But we`re just seeing it get worse and worse.
Although more research is needed, the findings underscore the importance of taking blood pressure seriously..
*Not being physically active
*Too much sodium (salt) in diet
*Too little potassium in your diet
*Drinking too much alcohol
*Certain chronic conditions such as Kidney diseases, Diabetes and Sleep apnea
*Age; The risk of high blood pressure increases as you advance in age. Until about 64, which is more common in men
*Certain medications such as birth control pills, cold remedies, decongestants, over-the-counter pain killers and some prescription drugs.
Certain defects you were born with (congenital) in blood vessels.
Sometimes pregnancy contributes to high blood pressure, as well.
Although it is most common in adults, children may be at risk too. For some children it can be caused by kidneys or heart problems. But for a growing number of kids poor lifestyle habits, such as unhealthy diets, obesity and lack of exercise, contribute to high blood pressure.
You can have high blood pressure for years without any symptoms. Early on you may not be too concerned however, in a long run high blood pressure can kill.
Even without symptoms, damage to blood vessels and your heart continues. Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases your risk of serious health issues, including heart attacks and stroke.
To curb this I will advice people to ask for reading at least every six months starting from age 18
