NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS

Inaugural Press Conference
The general public,
Members of The Press,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Various Lagos Campuses President,
And Greatest Nigerian Students. Great.
We welcome you all to the very epoch making inaugural press conference of NANS J CC (Lagos State axis).
It is indeed a great feelings of happiness and general level of satisfaction that we make bold to say that the competent and charismatic Comrade Bu sari Abdulqowiyy (the out gone NANS J CC chairman) supervised and delivered a free, fair and credible election as stipulated by the NANS J CC Lagos Bye Law.
Our unalloyed gratitude goes first to God the Almighty God, who instilled in us the enthusiasm and virtues to serve NANS J CC Lagos axis as well as give us the grace to emerge winners at the election.
Second is to all the ten senators who directly and indirectly gave us the opportunity to servant hood with their mandate and finally to our teeming and esteemed supporters, students of all tertiary institutions in Lagos and beyond who believe in the Grin Movement Agenda for NANS J CC Lagos. ˜We say thank you Alla
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS
Without much ado, our Leadership as the new NANS J CC EXECUTIVE (Lagos State axis) is ready to serve to save.
To save NANS NATIONAL from the conundrum of materialistic, moribund and docile leadership using NANS J CC LAGOS as the conduit and to push forward the frontiers of NANS activities in this center of excellence.
Every leadership that would be sustained to create an opportunity for the people to see beyond the cloudiness of the present must be driven by a passion and this passion is the one leading us because we CARE for our students and this is the core of the pursuit of this mandate. Our mandate would be hinged on five agenda and it would be to teemed The Grin CAREZ Agenda.
C CAMPAIGNS AND ADVOCACY
A ADVOCATING AND DEFENDING THE DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS OF STUDENTS
R REGULAR STEWARDSHIP MEETINGS, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY
E ENCOURAGING AND FACILITATION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Z ZAP FINANCING
Our campuses would witness the resurgence of positive campaigns and advocacy that would align with pirposenod education. We would create platforms and opportunities where various ideas that would help a wholesome student learning environment would be enhanced, various ideological campus based and educational inclined campaign and advocacy groups would be engaged to make this happen.
“ ADVOCATING AND DEFENDING THE DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS OF STUDENTS
Our founding fathers didn’t create this forum for students to be harassed and unjustly molested on our campuses. We would make sure we engage all democratic routes, diplomatic overtures and if necessary engage the lifeline of studentship which is struggle to make sure our students are protected on our campuses. We would advocate and defend the rights the Constitution gives the students.
“ REGULAR STEWARDSHIP MEETINGS, EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY
We would not be a leadership that is not accountable as any leadership not accountable to both themselves
And the electorate would be a damaged leadership.
We would have measures around us that would aid the accountability metrics around us which would include regular steward meetings with the senators and students meeting in our campuses as well as we would operate an open book leadership where all our activities would be open to check and balances.
“ ENCOURAGING AND FACILITATION OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Entrepreneurship driven opportunities would be one major pursuit of this administration as we are positioned to help students with the needed information, skills, platforms and if possible financial grants and loans to help them achieve freedom while still students.
Entrepreneurship driven conferences and seminars would also be encouraged and facilitated according to global standards of doing business amidst our students.
“ ZAP FINANCING
ZAP financing is a model packaged by this administration to help students finance their way through school.
We would engage with other stakeholders both private and public organizations to provide many opportunities where financing options would be made available to the students in form of grants and loans at a very reduced interest rate.
The CAREZ agenda would be one that would be fully involved in the educational, emotional, democratic and financial aspects of the students we lead.
This obviously is not going to be an easy task, but we are more than prepared to surmount any difficult situations.
By the grace of Almighty God, we are prepared to not succumb to any surgeon in our unrepentant undiluted advocacy for global best practice models of student’s welfarism in this ICT age.
In fact, one of the difficult situation ahead, is the challenge of financing the logistical exegesis and activities of the association.
This has overtime been the major factor continually be bedeviling this great national student’s body which has made it a lousy toothless dog.
This, we are prepared to put final panacea to by returning NANS to its rightful owners THE TRUE NIGERIAN STUDENTS who are the core stakeholders in NANS.
With this, and other solidarity supports from friendly organizations, NANS Lagos will reclaim its position as an independent association of students in Lagos and the game changer cum pacesetter for others.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS
Another focal area of our leadership agenda is to defend the democratic rights of Nigerian Students in Lagos viz a viz the pillars of the understated indices of civil, political, social and economic rights as articulately entrenched in our Constitution and relevant international instruments which have long been domesticated.
With quality and affordable, technology driven education in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S AGENDA of this current vibrant Lagos administration as well as good welfare and better studentship experience
We have a good news from Yabatech regarding the state of their union as the Rector has agreed that the student revise and amend the students Constitution to accommodate the modern demands of students governance.
We appreciate the Rector for this wonderful act of active partnership with the students and we want this to be achieved with all sense of urgency.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS
We are also fully aware that for some years now, students of Uni lag are denied their constitutional right to associate under the banner of Students Union Government and we beckon on the school management to toil the path of the Rector of Yabatech to bring in a union that would mediate on student issues and governance.
Also, we are aware that Lagos State University recently increased tuition fee of new regular student without comprehensive entrepreneurship course from #25,000 to #67,048.
This for us, is an attack on democratic right of all Nigerian Citizens to freedom of association, and the aspiration of Nigerian government to pursue education for all policy as enshrined in the Nigeria’s Constitution, we are prepared to struggle to defend these democratic rights without any fear or favor to the highs and lows who stands in our way.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS
It is now rampant on our campuses to have students suspended and rusticated because they don’t play by and to the Draconian and anti progressive rules of the school management.
We have had several cases of unjust expulsion of students because they stood their ground on issues that contravenes the intellectual and democratic rights bequeathed on them by the power of choice which allows them to decide which path to follow but which stands in the way of some of the management.
The Grin led J CC movement won’t support any school management that is not fair and ready to protect the interests of their students.
Every injustice whether politically motivated, academically orchestrated, sexually induced or which ever form it appears would not be tolerated on our campuses again.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS
To the Executive Governor of Lagos State, the numero uno student of the state and the father to all the students we use this opportunity to appreciate you for the support you have always extended to the students at large and to the Grand developmental strides witnessed in the state which can be attributed to your excellent leadership acumen and to the Special Assistant on Education Mr Tokunbo Wahab, to whom much is given much is expected, your position is for the advancement of the students and we appreciate the fact you are doing your job well.
Once again this administration would be one that would bring back the pride lost back in the students movement, we are not here to play we are here to serve to save.
