How to Manage a YouTube Channel

Managing a YouTube account isn’t just about uploading videos, it’s about strategic planning, creativity, and community building.

Let’s break it down into easy steps:

Step 1: Set Up or Access the YouTube Channel

If it’s a new channel:

  • Go to YouTube.com
  • Sign in with a Google (Gmail) account
  • Click the profile icon > "Create a channel"
  • Add channel name, profile pic, and banner

If it’s a client’s channel:

  • Ask them to add you as a manager via YouTube Studio > Settings > Permissions
  • They should use a Brand Account for easier role management

Tip: Use a business Gmail account, not personal, for better collaboration and access control.

Step 2: Plan the Content Strategy

We discussed this on the previous page.

Make a content calendar — plan 4–8 videos a month.

Step 3: Create and Edit Videos

You don’t need expensive gear to start — a phone and good lighting work.

Checklist:

  • Script or outline
  • Good lighting & clear audio
  • Edit to remove errors and add text, music, effects

Tools to use:

  • On PC: CapCut, Adobe Premiere Rush, Shotcut
  • On mobile: CapCut, InShot, VN Editor

Keep intros short. Hook viewers in the first 10 seconds.

Step 4: Upload Videos (The Smart Way)

Upload through YouTube Studio

When uploading:

  • Add catchy titles (with keywords)
  • Write a clear description (include links, CTAs)
  • Add relevant tags
  • Use thumbnails (custom ones are best!)
  • Choose the right category & playlist

Tip: Use Canva to design eye-catching thumbnails.

Step 5: Optimize for Discovery (YouTube SEO)

To get views, your videos must be searchable.

Do this:

  • Add your target keyword in the title, description, and tags
  • Use timestamps if the video is long
  • Add a strong call to action: "Like, comment, and subscribe"

Example “In this video, I’ll show you 5 simple ways to edit videos using your phone. Watch till the end!”

Step 6: Engage With Your Viewers

Respond to every:

  • Comment
  • Question
  • Feedback

Also:

  • Pin your favorite comment
  • Ask viewers questions to boost engagement
  • Use YouTube’s Community Tab (when enabled) to post updates, polls, or behind-the-scenes

💡 More engagement = More growth!

Step 7: Monitor Performance (Use Analytics)

Inside YouTube Studio, go to the Analytics tab, track:

  • Views
  • Watch time
  • Audience retention (how long people stay)
  • Traffic sources (where your viewers come from)
  • Subscribers gained/lost

Tip: Focus on what videos are performing best — then do more of that.

Step 8: Stay Consistent and Improve

  • Aim to post 1–2 times weekly
  • Batch-record videos to stay ahead
  • Repurpose content for shorts or other platforms (TikTok, Instagram)

Tip - Go live once a month to engage with your audience in real-time.
